Freescale-Powered Netbooks Feature Linuxes and 3G Connectivity

While creating their next netbook, Freescale Semiconductors stated task of prime importance to implant not omnipotent laptop, but rather connected and simple one. Therefore the processor company announced that it supports3G connectivity and additional operating system options for netbooks based on its i.MX515 processor. Freescale's processor leaves much to be designed and works with an ARM-based chipset.

At CES last month, Freescale entered the netbook space with the introduction of the i.MX515 processor in its reference design created by Pegatron and running Ubuntu. At present Freescale proposed to the public scrutiny its netbook ecosystem, considering additional Linux operating systems including Android, Phoenix Technologies Hyperspace and Xandros.

Freescale is going to continue cooperation with Wavecom and Option for the purpose of achieving 3G connectivity in netbooks. Probably, for the reason of Freescale's netbook reference design demonstration at given instant, the company is currently sampling the i.MX515 processor to tier one netbook customers. I.MX515 devices manufacture was determined for the second quarter of 2009 with the view of give greater emphasis for netbooks in the run-up to the 2009 holiday shopping season.
